THROGGS NECK, NY – Freshman attacker Nicholas Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) of the Maritime College men's lacrosse team has been chosen as the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year by the league's eight head coaches.  He was also named First Team All-Skyline along with senior attacker Connor Tomich (Sayville, NY), freshman defender Ryan Giambone (Coram, NY), junior short-stick defensive midfielder Nick Spista (White Plains, NY), graduate student faceoff specialist Joseph Bruno (East Islip, NY) and senior goalkeeper Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY).  Graduate student midfielder Luke Caliendo (North Babylon, NY), meanwhile, earned a place on the All-Skyline Second Team.

Uzakewicz is the Privateers' first Skyline Rookie of the Year since Monahan in 2022.  He leads the league and ranks 13th nationally with 3.07 assists per game.  Uzakewicz also paces the conference with 5.00 points per game.  He set a single-game program record with 13 points in the regular season finale at Mount St. Vincent, and his 46 assists this season are also a school record.  In addition, Uzakewciz sent two games into overtime by scoring the tying goal in the final seconds of regulation.

Tomich receives All-Skyline honors for the third consecutive year.  He was named to the First Team in 2023 and the Second Team last season.  Tomich leads the team with 37 goals, and his 2.47 goals per game are second-most in the conference.

Giambone is the anchor of a defensive unit that has allowed just 10.4 goals per game this season.  He ranks third on the squad with 42 ground balls, and he's been credited with a team-best 18 caused turnovers while typically drawing the assignment of the opponent's top offensive player.

Spista earns All-Skyline recognition for the first time in his career.  He's played in all 15 games and collected 46 ground balls, second-most on the team.  Spista is also second on the squad in caused turnovers (12), and he's tallied six points on two goals and four assists.

Bruno was named to the First Team for the first time after being the Second Team All-Skyline faceoff specialist in both 2023 and 2024.  He's 175-for-309 on faceoffs this season, a percentage of .566.  Bruno paces Maritime with 59 ground balls, and two of his nine goals were game-winners.  Bruno received Skyline Defensive Player of the Week honors after going a combined 35-for-36 on faceoffs in the wins over St. Joseph's LI and Purchase.

Monahan bookends his career with First Team All-Skyline selections.  He was honored during his Rookie of the Year season in 2022 when the Privateers won the Skyline title.  Monahan has started all 15 games and is 8-6 on the year.  Earlier this season, he became just the fourth goalkeeper in program history with 400 career saves.  Monahan's .593 save percentage is second-best in the conference, and he's third in the league in goals against average (9.89).

Caliendo, who's also a member of the football team, has now earned all-conference honors in both sports in back-to-back years.  This is his second straight Second Team All-Skyline nod in lacrosse.  Caliendo has collected 41 ground balls to go along with 17 goals and eight assists this season.

The Privateers (8-7, 6-1 Skyline) finished in a three-way tie for first place in the final Skyline standings, but ended up as the No. 3 seed in the Skyline Tournament on a tiebreaker.  Maritime plays its first-ever conference tournament road game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against second-seeded Merchant Marine (9-5, 6-1 Skyline).  The Privateers have won six straight since a 13-7 loss to the Mariners on April 5.
