KINGS POINT, NY – After earning the No. 3 seed in the Skyline Conference Tournament, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team visited second-seeded Merchant Marine in the semifinals on Tuesday night. Playing in their first-ever road playoff game, the Privateers (8-8) saw their 2025 campaign come to an end with an 18-8 loss to the Mariners (10-5) at Brooks Stadium.
Merchant Marine scored three goals in the first 3:44 of the game, prompting a quick Maritime timeout. The Mariners extended their lead to 5-0 before
Nick LiPuma (Bayport, NY) got the Privateers on the board with 3:05 left in the first quarter. After
Parker Reilly (West Islip, NY) made it 5-2 early in the second quarter, Merchant Marine rattled off three straight tallies to increase its advantage to 8-2. The Mariners held a 9-3 edge at halftime.
Maritime pulled within 9-4 on
Ryan Hannford's (Bayport, NY) goal at the 13:41 mark of the third quarter before Merchant Marine followed with four straight scores to open up a 13-4 cushion. The Privateers ended the period on a 3-1 run to trim their deficit to 14-7. The Mariners outscored Maritime 4-1 in the fourth quarter, though, to pull away for an 18-8 win and move into the Championship Game against top-seeded Farmingdale.
Hannaford tallied five points for the Privateers. He finished with three goals and two assists. LiPuma
scored twice, while Reilly, in his return to the lineup after missing two months with an injury, and Skyline Rookie of the Year
Nichols Uzakewicz (Hauppauge, NY) each posted a goal and an assist.
Ryan Giambone (Coram, NY) gathered a team-high four ground balls, and goalkeeper
Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) (8-7) was credited with 14 saves in his final collegiate game.
Owen Behr had five goals and an assist for Merchant Marine, while Michael Emerick tallied four goals and an assist to go along with six ground balls. Owen Behr recorded nine points on three goals and six assists, and Jack Collins finished with a goal and four assists. Tucker Kuhn went 18-for-22 on faceoffs and collected eight ground balls. As a team, the Mariners held a 46-26 edge in that category. Julian Garcia (10-5) made nine saves, as Merchant Marine advanced to its first Skyline Championship Game since 2023.
The loss snapped Maritime's streak of five consecutive Skyline Championship Game appearances. The last time the Privateers didn't reach the Championship Game was in 2018, when they fell in overtime to Mount St. Mary in the semifinals.
