THROGGS NECK, NY – The final NCAA statistics for the 2024 season have been published, and the Maritime College football team ranked second nationally with a program-record 16 fumble recoveries, one behind national leader Mary Hardin-Baylor.  Individually, Vinny Fundaro's (Levittown, NY) three fumble recoveries were tied for the sixth-most in Division III.

Maritime recovered at least one fumble in all 11 games this season, including five contests in which the Privateers picked up two.  Eleven different Maritime players were credited with a recovery.  Gino Fundaro (Levittown, NY), Jack Kellner (Seaford, NY) and Kevin Wu (Staten Island, NY) all secured two opponents' fumbles, while Ryan Costales (Brewster, NY), Dylan Denicker (Queens, NY), Anthony Gentile (Massapequa, NY), Dennis Matich (Floral Park, NY), Nick Spista (White Plains, NY), Zander Timothy (Woodland Park, NJ) and Nick Tulipano (Bronx, NY) had one recovery each.

While the defense's 16 fumbles recovered were a program record, the offense also set a school mark with just four fumbles lost.  That total was 31st-best nationally.  Maritime only threw five interceptions, as well, and ranked 10th in the nation with nine turnovers lost.  The Privateers ended up 13th overall with a turnover margin of 1.18.

In 2024, Maritime went 8-3 overall and finished second in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference with a 5-2 league record.  The Privateers capped the season by hosting the inaugural Fusion Bowl on Nov. 23 and earning their first-ever postseason victory, 21-14 over Husson.
