THROGGS NECK, NY – After one of the most prolific offensive seasons in program history,
Matt Milone (Farmingville, NY) of the Maritime College baseball team has been named Skyline Conference Co-Player of the Year. Milone, who shared the award with Merchant Marine's Tyler Reistetter, was also one of three Privateers to earn First Team All-Skyline honors, joining
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY) and
Matthew Demme (Carmel, NY).
Anthony Madigan (Greenlawn, NY) and
Jack Kellner (Seaford, NY), meanwhile, were Second Team All-Skyline selections.
Milone set program records for doubles (17), triples (4), home runs (15) and RBIs (55) while starting every game in center field. He posted a .366 batting average and ranked second in the league in both slugging percentage (.848) and OPS (1.317). Milone had 53 hits, scored 41 times and stole six bases. He became the first Maritime player ever to hit for the cycle at FDU-Florham on April 18 and received a Skyline Player of the Week nod on May 2.
This is Forgione's second straight First Team All-Skyline selection. He also belted a program-record 17 doubles to go along with 11 homers and 45 RBIs. The Maritime third baseman hit .365 on the season and scored 47 runs, third-most in the conference. Forgione was third in the conference in OPS (1.190) and fourth in slugging percentage (.703). He was chosen as the Skyline Player of the Week and also earned a place on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on April 18.
Demme was honored as a starting pitcher. He tied for the league lead in wins, going 7-1 in 12 appearances. Demme also recorded one save. He tossed two complete games, including a one-hit shutout against Lehman on March 19. Demme struck out 46 batters in 55.2 innings and posted a 4.53 ERA. In just two seasons at Maritime, he already ranks third on the Privateers' all-time list with 13 career wins.
Madigan moved from catcher to the outfield during the season and finished with a league-leading 62 hits, one shy of the single-season program record. He was named Skyline Player of the Week on March 28. Kellner emerged as the Privateers' closer and was recognized as a reliever. He made a program-record 17 appearances on the mound and notched a 1.88 ERA while tallying four saves.
Maritime went 29-15 this season, establishing a new program standard for wins. The Privateers, who posted a 14-6 mark in conference play during the regular season, reached the championship round of the Skyline Tournament for the first time since 2017.
