NEW YORK – On Friday evening, the Maritime College women's swimming & diving team visited John Jay for a dual meet.
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) and
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) each earned two event wins, but it was not enough for the victory, as the Privateers fell to the Bloodhounds by a 65-29 count at the John Jay College Pool.
Cirelli took first in back-to-back events. After winning the 200 yard individual medley in 2:36.96, she was immediately back in the pool for the 100 yard butterfly, notching another victory with a 1:10.63 clocking. Barriteau, meanwhile, finished first in both the 500 yard freestyle (6:31.25) and 200 yard butterfly (2:59.77) to go along with a second-place showing in the 200 yard freestyle (2:20.77).
In the 200 yard medley relay, the quartet of Cirelli, Barriteau,
Kate Kolsch (Smithtown, NY) and
Fiona Crean (Ocean Township, NJ) were second in a time of 2:17.77. Kolsch added an individual second-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:19.74), while
Kirsten Argueta's (Englewood, NJ) time of 1:28.94 in the 100 yard backstroke was also good for second place.
Maritime was originally scheduled to return to action at St. Joseph's LI on Saturday, but that meet has been cancelled. The Privateers will reunite with the men's team on Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. dual meet against William Paterson at the Riesenberg Aquatics Center.
