KINGS POINT, NY – On Wednesday, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in their final meet of the regular season. The men's squad defeated Mount St. Mary 106-63 and dropped a 172-46 decision to Merchant Marine, while the Privateer women fell to both the Knights (94-73) and Mariners (173-37) at O'Hara Pool.
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL) had the top individual performance for the men's team, finishing second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.49. He also placed third in the 50 yard freestyle with a 23.49-second clocking and led off the 200 yard freestyle relay squad that posted a third-place time of 1:39.61.
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY),
Griffin Goldleaf (New Paltz, NY) and
Will Kim (Westbury, NY) were the other members of that quartet.
Individually, Kim took third in the 100 yard butterfly (58.66) and Reilly was fourth in the 100 yard freestyle (55.47). Also recording third-place finishes were
Nolan Lovegrove (Darien, CT) in the 200 yard freestyle (2:14.33) and
Alex Baros (Phoenix, AZ) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.26).
Sean Corrigan (Warwick, NY), meanwhile, secured fourth place in both the 200 yard individual medley (2:31.05) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:19.82).
Jessica Magee (Smithtown, NY) captured third place in the women's 1-meter diving competition with 191.92 points, then scored 180.90 points on the 3-meter board to place third in that event, as well.
Maeve Lavery's (Bronx, NY) third-place showing in the 200 freestyle (2:18.47) was the top swimming performance by a Maritime woman. She later added a fourth-place effort in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.67).
Up next for the Privateers is the Skyline Conference Championships. Competition gets underway on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Purchase College Athletic Center.
