THROGGS NECK, NY – Two members of the Maritime College baseball team have been named Second Team All-Region by D3baseball.com.
Niko Concha (Ballston Spa, NY) was selected as a starting pitcher, while third baseman
Freddy Forgione (Ronkonkoma, NY) was also honored.
"I'm so happy for both Niko and Freddy on their All-Region awards," Head Coach
Charlie Barbieri said. "They were absolutely vital to our success this season and are deserving of this recognition. More importantly, they're great human beings who put in the work every day."
Concha earned First Team All-Skyline honors this season after going a perfect 7-0 in 10 appearances (seven starts). He tossed three shutouts and allowed just nine earned runs in 45.1 innings pitched. Concha ranked second in the Skyline Conference in both wins and ERA (1.79). He struck out 41 batters on the season, including a single-game program-record 14 against John Jay on March 19. Concha held opponents to a .206 batting average and did not yield a home run all year.
Forgione, meanwhile, paced the Skyline Conference with eight home runs. He also had a league-best .748 slugging percentage while hitting .409, the third-highest batting average in program history. Forgione, who set a program record with 15 doubles this season, led the Privateers in RBIs (32) and hits (47), and his 32 runs scored were tied for the most on the team. He was named to D3baseball.com's "Team of the Week" on March 3 after hitting five doubles in Maritime's season-opening doubleheader against Plattsburgh.
This marked the 10
th year in which D3baseball.com selected an All-Region Team in each of 10 regions. Maritime is in Region 3, which consists primarily of New York schools.
