Maritime Sweeps Lehman In Dual Meet

The Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued their busy week with a dual meet against Lehman at the Lehman College APEX on Friday evening.  The Privateer women won nine of the 13 events to earn a 116-68 triumph over the Lightning, while the men's squad recorded its first victory of the season, 103-87.

Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) and Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY) both picked up a pair of individual wins.  Cirelli was first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:08.41) and 200 yard individual medley (2:41.76), while Lavery claimed victory in the 200 yard freestyle (2:20.07) and 500 yard freestyle (6:27.49).  They also joined with Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY) and Jessica Magee (Smithtown, NY) on the victorious 200 yard medley relay squad (2:11.50).

Individually, Magee swept the diving events, notching a score of 211.05 points on the 1-meter board and tallying 196.05 points in the 3-meter competition.  Barriteau, meanwhile, captured first place in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 14:06.06.  The Privateers closed the meet with a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with the team of Lauren Clary (Bethlehem, GA), Kirsten Argueta (Englewood, NJ), Isabelle Gautier (Pascagoula, MS) and Marilyn Peterson (Whitney Point, NY) finishing in 2:15.28.

On the men's side, Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL) won both the 100 yard backstroke (1:01.95) and 200 freestyle (1:57.50).  He also swam the anchor leg on the 200 freestyle relay team that closed out the meet with a victory.  Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY), Griffin Goldleaf (New Paltz, NY) and Alex Baros (Phoenix, AZ) joined Roe on the relay, which posted a 2:02.55 clocking.

In the 200 medley relay, Maritime's foursome of Nolan Lovegrove (Darien, CT), Sean Corrigan (Warwick, NY), Anthony Marrone (Washingtonville, NY) and Goldleaf earned the win in 1:57.41.  Lovegrove and Corrigan each had an individual victory, as well.  Lovegrove was first in the 1000 freestyle (13:18.74), while Corrigan took the 100 yard freestyle in 56.47 seconds.

Maritime will compete for the fourth time in five days on Saturday.  The Privateers will visit Sarah Lawrence at 1 p.m. for a meet that will also include Hunter and Merchant Marine.
