THROGGS NECK, NY – After a five-week holiday break, the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to action with their final competition of the regular season, a tri-meet against Merchant Marine and Mount St. Mary at the Riesenberg Aquatic Center on Thursday night.  Both squads defeated Mount St. Mary and fell to Merchant Marine.
Zoe Marchetti (Key Largo, FL) was Maritime's only event winner on the night.  She took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.94.  Marchetti also placed second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:33.35) and swam the leadoff leg on the 200 yard medley relay squad that was second in 1:59.80.
Lauren Barriteau (Laurelton, NY), 
Mary Cirelli (Oreland, PA) and 
Adelle Leger (Middletown, NY) were the other members of the 200 medley relay.  Individually, Cirelli finished second in the 50 yard freestyle (27.29) and Leger grabbed second place in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.69) to go along with a third-place showing in the 200 yard freestyle (2:17.60).  Barriteau, meanwhile, posted a time of 1:22.92 in the 100 yard breaststroke, which was good for third place.
In the head-to-head matchup with Mount St. Mary, the Privateers won by a score of 103-55.  Maritime, meanwhile, fell to Merchant Marine by a 169-56 count.
On the men's side, the Privateers beat Mount St. Mary 134-45 and dropped a 169-56 decision to Merchant Marine.  
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ) and 
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ) were Maritime's top performers, each posting a second- and a third-place finish in two individual events.
Hinds recorded a time of 50.82 seconds to grab second place in the 100 freestyle and took third in the 50 freestyle with a 22.98-second clocking.  Menz, meanwhile, was second in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.33) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.38).  In addition, they both swam on Maritime's 200 medley relay squad that placed third in 1:47.74.
The other members of that relay team—
Edwin Moriarty (Long Beach, NY) and 
Michael Grimerstein (Pittsburgh, PA) each added an individual third-place effort.  Grimerstein registered a time of 11:34.30 in the 1000 yard freestyle, while Moriarty's third-place time in the 500 yard freestyle was 5:30.78.  In addition, 
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL) took third in the 200 individual medley (2:12.83) and the quartet of Roe, 
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY), 
Zybo Marchetti (Key Largo, FL) and 
Sage Trautz (Lansdale, PA) closed out the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:35.02).
Up next for Maritime is the Skyline Conference Championships next Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 22-23 at Purchase College.  The women will be up first at 10 a.m. each day, with the men's sessions starting at 3:30 p.m.
