Men's Lacrosse Streaks to Three Straight Wins with 15-8 Win over Manhattanville

The Maritime College men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 this season after they put together a dominant performance against Manhattanville College. The Privateers played well on both ends of the field as they defeated the Valiants 15-8, marking the most goals they have scored in a game this season as well as the least amount of goals they have allowed.

The Valiants hung tough with Maritime in the opening frame as they played a solid 15 minutes of defense and recorded six saves. With the score knotted at 2-2 heading into the second quarter, the Privateers took control of the game by netting five goals in the second period. Maritime saw a balanced effort offensively throughout the game as 10 different players scored a goal and the second quarter offensive outburst saw just that as Kyle Orton (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen), Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), Mike Leake (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), Jason Corvi (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West), and Christian Vera (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each netted a goal in the period.

With a 7-5 advantage heading into the third quarter, the Privateers really began to pull away as they ended up scoring six unanswered goals. In addition to the offensive production, two-time Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week Kyle Bockelman (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) continued to lead the Maritime defensive effort in goal as they only allowed three second half goals. In their three games played this season, Maritime has only allowed nine second half goals. Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) ended up finishing the game in goal for Maritime and recorded one save.

Keegan and Leake led the offensive effort for the Privateers with five points each, with Keegan recording three goals and two assists and Leake tallying four assists and one goal. Patrick Schnell (Jericho, NY/Jericho) put up four points on one goal and three assists, while the rest of the Privateers to score included Orton, Corvi, Vera, Alex Ellis (Massapequa, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), Kieran Hendry (East Northport, NY/Commack), Connor Buschle (Bellport, NY/St. John the Baptist), and Collin Flannery (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River). Adding to the dominant game for Maritime was their performance at the face-off. Kevin Buser (Babylon, NY/) finished 18-20, while the team ended the ended the game an impressive 23-26. Additionally, Buser picked up the majority of his face-off wins on his own as he recorded a team-high 10 ground balls.
