CITY ISLAND, N.Y. – The Maritime men's and women's rowing teams took part in the Metropolitan Championships this past weekend hosted by Iona College in Orchard Beach Lagoon.
The Privateers had just two entries at the event with the men's and women's pairs competing at the regatta. The two Privateer entries competed against one boat from Fairfield University in a three-boat race along the 2000 meter course.
Seniors
Corey Toscano (Union Vale, N.Y./Our Lady Of Lourdes) and
Liam Gagliano (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay) were in the male entry for Maritime and cruised to a 71 second victory over the entry from Fairfield at 9:06.30. The Stags' entry took second with a time of 10:17.43.
Finishing in third position was the female entry for the Privateers as junior
Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and sophomore
Anneliese Selheim (Castle Rock, Colo./East Meadow (N.Y.)) crossed the line at an 11:45.80.
Maritime will wrap up the spring slate this coming weekend, when the pairs will be back in action again at the New York State Championships on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The one-day event will take place on Saturday, May 6.
