The pair had an impressive showing on the weekend, and qualified for the second final of the varsity pair and were the top non-Division I rowing program to finish at the event.

Twenty-four entries took part in the initial heat of the men's pair with the cut line coming after the 18th finisher. Maritime's duo took 10th place with an initial run time of 7:06.633, and was just a half-second behind ninth-place George Mason.

Georgia Tech led the opening round with a 6:52.224, while Colgate, Loyola (Md.), Minnesota, Michigan, Oklahoma City, Duke, Merchant Marine, George Mason, Fairfield, Grand Valley, High Point, Virginia, Milwaukee School of Engineering, North Carolina, Iona, and Delaware all qualified for the semifinal round.

After the teams were reseeded into three semifinal rounds, the Privateers were placed in the third heat and looking to finish in the top two of their race to qualify for the top final, but narrowly missed the cut by just 0.375 seconds with a time of 7:17.527. Loyola (Md.) won the heat with a 7:14.769, while Minnesota edged out the Privateers with a time of 7:17.527.

While the Privateers missed out on qualifying for the finals to compete for the Bob Negaard Cup, the team did qualify for the consolation final, which was the 96th overall race at the Dad Vail.

Competing against Duke, George Mason, High Point, Merchant Marine, and Virginia, the Privateers won the event with a time of 7:13.660. Duke was a close second at 7:14.710, while Merchant Marine, George Mason, High Point and Virginia rounded out the field.
