SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Maritime men's rowing team was back in action at the Head of the Fish Regatta on Fish Creek this past weekend. The Privateers had three entries at the event and recorded its first top-ten finish of the season as the men's first varsity four led the way for the privateers.

Conditions on the water were excellent in the morning but racing was delayed an hour due to an extreme heavy fog on the course.

The Men's novice eight got the day started for the privateers freshman
Liam Sammons (St. Johnsville, N.Y./Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsvile) and following him freshman
Phil Palermo (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic), freshman
Torleif Stumo (Sheffield, Mass./Hotchkiss School), sophomore
Winter Ryan (York, Pa./York Suburban), freshman
Dean Maniscalco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland), freshman
Borahan Alpaslan (Istanbul, Turkey/Final Temel Okullari), freshman
Joseph Seychell (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), and freshman
James Onorato (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot). Coxing this eight in their first race of the season was sophomore
Spencer Ragonesi (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside).

Maritime started as the boat in the race and had an outstanding row for having very limited practice time. They passed one crew and finished 29th of 34 with a time of 15:10.9. The Privateers beat Middlebury, UMass and Rhode Island in the process.
The first varsity four has stayed the same the whole season consisting of freshman stroke seat
Roury Higgins (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) and following him freshman
Stefano Korkotas (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage), sophomore
John Woods (Worcester, Mass./St. John's) and freshman
Christian Tanas (Chatham, N.J./St. Peter's Prep). Junior
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown N.J./Bordentown Regional) coxed the boat. The varsity four did not have the best row of the season despite placing ninth of 38 with a time of 12:50.4. Rutgers passed the boat in the early beginnings of the race, but the crew managed to pass Vermont and hold off Fairfield towards the end of the race.
The second varsity four also remaining the same was comprised of freshman stroke seat
Tommy Murray (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic), sophomore
James Louer Jr. (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), sophomore
Zach Woolley (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) and sophomore
Adam Durrua (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach). Sophomore
Ben Ludwig (New City, N.Y./Clarsktown North) remained in the coxswain seat for the second varsity four. The second varsity four had the best row of their season and finished with a time of 13:46.27 placing 24th of 38.

The season continues this coming Saturday, when the Privateers compete in the Head of the Occoquan on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Va.Â
