Men's Basketball Succumbs to Sage in Skyline Conference Action

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Maritime men's basketball team fell on the road to the Sage Gators by the score of 104-80 on Wednesday evening from Kahl Gym in Maritime's final trip to Sage as a conference opponent.
 
Leading the way for the Privateers was senior Tim Hoch (Coventry, R.I./Fishers Island (N.Y.)), who collected 17 points on the matchup on 6-of-12 shooting while also collecting five rebounds. Junior Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) had 16 points and had nine rebounds, while also registering a pair of steals.  Junior John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) was the third Privateer in double-figures as he recorded 12 points on the game.
 
Senior Brendon Halligan (Durham, N.Y./Cairo-Durham) and junior Tim McQuail (Middle Village, N.Y./Cathedral Prep) both collected five points apiece, while freshman Malik Clark (Central Islip, N.Y./Central Islip) added seven points and classmate Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) had eight off the bench. McGovern along with junior Josh Raime (Elmont, N.Y./Holy Cross) each led the team with two assists each.
 
Senior Liam Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols) added two points and two steals, while fellow senior Bobby Parlow (Bay Head, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) had one point and a pair of rebounds. Junior Akil Spruill (Queens, N.Y./Holy Cross) had five points, while sophomore James Bonner (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) collected a bucket with a pair of rebounds.
 
Sage opened the contest with the first four points, but Halligan connected on a layup followed by a three-pointer by Hoch to put the Privateers ahead by a 5-4 advantage with just under three minutes gone by. Sage scored the next 14 points and continued to hold a double-figure lead through the majority of the first half.
 
Through the first 20 minutes, MacDonald led the team with seven points and four rebounds. Liccese had six, while Clark, Hoch and Halligan each had five points apiece through the opening stanza.
 
In the second half, Sage continued to keep the Privateers at bay after holding a 45-33 lead at the break. The Gators opened the second with an 8-4 burst and continued to add to its lead adding a combined second half total of 59 points to Maritime's 47, for a 40-minute total of 104-80.
 
The second half saw Hoch lead the Privateers with a dozen points, while McGovern added eight off the bench. MacDonald chipped in with nine points and also yanked down four more boards to finish the game with nine rebounds, just one shy of a double-double.
 
Maritime (6-6, 2-3 Skyline) will return home to play Old Westbury from Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium at 1 p.m. with live stats and live video of the game available at MaritimeAthletics.com.
 
Sage (7-6, 3-1 Skyline) will travel to Farmingdale on Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip off against the Rams on Long Island.
