Week 8 Preview: Road Trip to Castleton on Tap for Privateers

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime football team will be visiting Vermont this weekend as the team takes on the Castleton Spartans at Spartan Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. start.

Series History: The Privateers and Spartans have met seven times, and the series has been close as Maritime has won four of the seven matchups since beginning their series in 2009. Last season, the Privateers fell at home to the Spartans in a high-scoring affair by a 49-34 score.
 
Maritime Last Game Recap: Maritime had its highest offensive output of the season a week ago with 40 points as the team defeated Becker by a 40-13 score. However, it was the defense and special teams to spark the offense with a blocked punt and an interception that were both returned for touchdowns in the opening two minutes of the game.
 
Castleton Last Game Recap: The Spartans enter this week's contest looking to get back on track after a 43-21 loss to Husson at home. Time of possession was key in the contest, as Husson had the ball for twice as long as Castleton at a 42:28 to 17:32 difference.
 
Weekly Honors: For the fourth time this season, junior placekicker Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) was named as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, he later went on to be named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. In addition to Murphy's accolades, senior defensive back Brian Price (New York, N.Y./Wadleigh) was named the league's top defensive performer this week, after earning a special teams honor earlier in the season. Red-Zone Efficiency: In 23 trips to the red zone, the Maritime offense has put up points in 19 of those trips including 12 touchdowns. The season total includes last week's 4-for-4 in the win over Becker.
 
Around the ECFC: In other games around the league, Anna Maria visits Husson, while Gallaudet travels to Norwich, Mount Ida will host Becker, all three will begin at 12:00 p.m.
