THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – After his selection as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, junior placekicker
Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday morning.
Â
Murphy is Maritime's first selection to the national honor this season, as he put together a record-setting performance in the Privateers' 40-13 win over the Becker Hawks on Saturday afternoon on Reinhart Field.
Â
Murphy set a trio of Privateer records as he attempted five field goals, converted on four of those five, and had the most points scored by kicking in a game with his 16 points. He converted on two 45 yard field goals, and also drilled field goals from 33 and 27 yards out.
Â
Murphy was also a perfect 4-for-4 on his extra point attempts to tally his 16 points, which now gives him the ECFC lead in scoring with 49 points on the season.
Â
Maritime (4-2, 2-1 ECFC) will be back on the road this Saturday, when the team travels to Castleton, Vermont for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Castleton Spartans at Spartan Stadium.
