Final ResultsTHROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving teams were back in action on Monday evening from the Riesenberg Aquatic Center as the Privateers hosted the Brooklyn Bulldogs in a non-conference meet. The Privateer men won by a score of 159-75, while the women powered past the Bulldogs by a 126.5 to 75.5 score.
The Maritime men won 10 of 11 swimming competitions, with Brooklyn taking first place in both the one and three-meter diving events. The Privateer women won 8 of 10 head-to-head battles in swimming competition with one tie on the night. Maritime had one women's diver compete in the 1-meter dive for the win, while no women competed in the 3-meter dive.
On the men's side, the A Relay team of senior
Matt Cannon (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), freshmen
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain),
Kevin Wu (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis), and sophomore
Doug Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) began the night with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:48.05. The B Team of sophomore
Pat O'Dea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier), freshman
John Accetta (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg), junior
Charles Schnebel (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), and sophomore
Andrew Katz (Elwood, N.Y./John Glenn) scored a second place finish with a 1:50.51.
The Privateers had two other relay squads in the water with juniors
Jonathan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg),
Brian Roberts (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), along with freshmen
Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway) and
Tristan DeYoung (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) scored a 2:00.84. The final group saw junior
Charles Gallagher (Port Ewen, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes),
Craig Lyon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), and freshmen
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional), and
Kyle Zajaczkowski (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) coming in with a 1:58.33 as an exhibition race.
Junior
Robert Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) posted a nine-second win in his 1,000 Freestyle race with a time of 11:52.53. Lewis was followed by freshman
Shane Hoey (Bell Harbor, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) with a 12:01.82, and sophomore
Luke Doherty (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) with a time of 12:01.88. Senior
Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) scored a two-second win in the 200 Freestyle to pick up nine points for Maritime as the senior scored a 1:59.40, Chilelli came in third (2:02.03) followed by Katz in fourth (2:03.26).
Brooklyn recorded its lone swimming win of the night in the 50 Freestyle, as Accetta was Maritime's top finisher in third (24.40), followed by classmate
Lillo Rubino (Islip Terrace, N.Y./Central Islip) with a 25.28, and Roberts with a 25.68. In the 200 Individual Medley, freshman
Preston Truong (Austin, Texas/Round Rock) picked up his first win of the night with a time of 2:05.61, 15 seconds better than his closest competitor. Chilelli came to the wall in third position (2:23.00), followed by DeYoung with a 2:23.41.
The 1-meter Dive was up next with freshman
Kurt Schieferstein (Lattingtown, N.Y./Chaminade) picking up a second place finish, with a 152.15, just 10 points behind the leader from Brooklyn.
Erskine made it 2-for-2 on the night with a sub-minute time in the 100 Butterfly, registering a 59.63. Schnebel was second (1:00.76), followed by Murray (1:05.78), for the 1-2-3 finish. Wu registered the next Privateer win in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.54, Russell was close behind with a 51.87, with senior
Nicholas Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) finishing in fourth with a 55.30.
In the 100 Backstroke, Rubino was next to pick up a win with a time of 1:03.62. Katz was second with a 1:03.62, followed by O'Dea with a 1:05.20. The 500 Freestyle saw Lewis get his second win of the night with a 13-second win in the event (5:41.78). He was followed by Doherty in third (5:57.84) and Brow in fourth with a 5:58.36. Truong picked up his second individual victory of the night with a 1:04.06, just a half-second better than Marino (1:04.54).
The 200 Freestyle Relay featured Truong, Russell, Murray, and Wu with a time of 1:31.67, they were followed by Lewis, Rubino, Accetta and Brow with a 1:39.54 to combine for 15 points in the relay. Pierce, Gallagher, Zajaczkowski, and Lyon came in fifth with a 1:45.21, followed by sophomore
Tom Mirrione (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), junior
Sam Dratch (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central), sophomore
Aaron Perez (Glendale, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy), and Hoey finishing with an exhibition time of 1:46.56.
The women's team got the night off to a quick start with a 36 second win in the 200 Medley Relay as freshman
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport), senior
Emma Crandall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), freshman
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) and sophomore
Sarah Soulagnet (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Homeschooled) recorded a time of 2:19.81 to begin the evening.
Junior
Ashley O'Brien (Queens, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) was up next in the 1,000 Freestyle, and scored a four-minute win over her lone competitor as O'Brien registered a 14:12.65. In the 200 Freestyle, Brooklyn scored the top-two finishes but Maritime took the next three spots as freshman
Catherine Teige (Yonkers, N.Y./Our Lady of Good Counsel), and sophomores
Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), and
Kayla Nolan (Howard Beach, N.Y./Scholars' Academy) rounded out the field.
Rookie
Katherine Reed () scored a win in the 50 Freestyle event as she posted a sub-30 second time of 29.96. Sophomore
Gabrielle Kempski (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) took fourth position with a time of 35.81. Freshman
Ekaterina Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) picked up the next Maritime victory in the 200 Individual Medley as she touched the wall with a time of 2:31.05; she was followed by Zink (2:33.48) and Soulagnet (2:48.04) for the top-three sweep.
Sophomore
Alexandra Schnabel (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) went unopposed in the 1-meter dive and picked up a score of 129.35 for another nine points to Maritime's total. The 100 Butterfly was next as Aaron, and a swimmer from Brooklyn posted identical times of 1:06.85 to split the top points, O'Brien finished fourth with a time of 1:22.53.
Zink registered another victory as she controlled much of the 100 Freestyle with a 13-second win as she scored a 1:00.42. Reed (1:15.31) and Granit (1:19.04) also picked up important points for the Privateers. Crandall scored a win in the 100 Backstroke coming in with a time of 1:20.46, Teige finished third with a 1:27.40, followed by sophomore
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) with a 1:32.58.
The 500 Freestyle saw Aaron pick up her third individual victory with a sub-six minute time of 5:59.37. Davis finished second with a 6:39.28 in the 500 Free. Up next was Crandall with her third win of the night as she scored a five-second victory in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:25.01, Nolan came to the wall in fourth position with a time of 1:50.13.
The Privateers had a pair of relay teams in the 200 Freestyle Relay, with Soulagnet, Reed, Davis and O'Brien narrowly missing out on victory with a time of 1:57.65. The Privateer B Relay team of Schnabel, Kempski, Yee and Teige finished up the night with a 2:09.26.
Maritime's Men's (6-0, 4-0 Skyline), and Women's (4-3, 3-2 Skyline) will kick off the month of December in its next meet, when the team travels to nearby Lehman College for a 6 p.m. start on Wednesday, December 2.
