St. Joseph's (LI) Invitational ResultsKINGS PARK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Cross Country team boasted another strong performance placing third this weekend at the St. Joseph's College Invitational in Kings Park, N.Y. The Women's Cross Country team finished 14th for a second consecutive week at the Saturday morning meet.
The Men's squad was led by the trio of sophomore Nicholas Sherman, senior
Cameron Coneys (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) and junior
Joseph Pellegrino (Huntington, N.Y./Commack) who finished 18th, 19th and 20th respectively. Sherman and Coneys finished with a time of 29:46.3 and Pellegrino was just behind at 29:46.4. Â
Freshman
Tom Mongeau (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) finished 30th (30:38.9), two places ahead of fellow freshman
Christian Berglin (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) who ended up 32nd with a time of 30:42.6. Freshman
Garrett Ernst (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) finished 35th (30:57.5) and junior
Kevin Sun (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) finished 39th (31:06.8), giving the Privateers seven runners in the top 40 of the meet.
Freshmen
Vincent Cotrone (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) (31:51.3), Matthew Papania (33.27.0) and
Kurt Schieferstein (Lattingtown, N.Y./Chaminade) (34.40.3) rounded out the rest of the Men's squad.
The Privateers placed third overall with a total score of 119 behind only Bloomfield and Kings Point. Maritime finished highest of the Skyline Conference participants, 14 points ahead of fourth place St. Joseph's (LI).
Junior
Chelsea Mesa (Bayside, N.Y./Francis Lewis) placed the highest for the Women's team with a time of 23:39.6. Rookie
Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) was less than two minutes behind at 25:00.2.
Freshmen
Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) (27:16.3),
Ekaterina Aaron () (29:13.7)
Riley Huang (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) (31:16.8), sophomore Abigail Grant (35:31.3) and junior
Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) (37:18.2) finished the rest of the scoring for the Privateers.
The Women's team ended up with a total score of 388, good for 14th overall and 4th out of the Skyline teams.
Next up for the Cross Country team is the Skyline Conference Championships this coming Sunday, October. 25 in the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.
