Week 7 Preview: Maritime Looks to Knock Off Conference Foe Norwich

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Football team will take on travel to Nortfield, Vermont this Saturday, and look to defeat Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Opponent Norwich, on Saturday afternoon 1 p.m. on Sabine Field.
 
The Privateers will look to get back on the winning track after a tight 14-13 loss to Becker last weekend.

All-Time Series
Maritime is 2-6 in eight all-time matchups against Norwich. The Privateers last victory over Norwich was a 20-2 win on October 30, 2010.

Last season, Maritime fell by a 13-6 score to the Cadets on Reinhart Field. The Privateers scored a late touchdown as Kyle Gardner (Amityville N.Y./St. Anthony’s) pulled Maritime within one score, with just under two minutes left in the game. Defensively, Nick Coffiey picked up a team-high with 12 tackles, while classmate Duke Alvora (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) recorded 10 stops. Kameron Knight (Clayton, N.C./West Johnson) forced a fumble in the contest, which was picked up by Beau Warrington (Milford, Del./Sussex Technical)Nick Conte (Franklin Square, N.Y./Carey) registered an interception.
 
Comeback Kids
The Privateers have a 4-2 record in ECFC matchups following a conference loss. In the team's last conference loss, before last week, Maritime bounced back for its greatest defensive performance in program history as the team blanked Gallaudet by a 26-0 score. In the game, Gallaudet was held to just 88 yards of total offense.
 
Bruiser Back
In the game last Saturday against Becker, junior fullback Brent McKinney rushed 15 times for 130 yards, an average of 8.6 yards per carry, and also had one touchdown. McKinney now leads the team with 406 rushing yards on the season.
 
Linebacker Duo
Last week, linebackers Kendal Parker (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) and Knight racked up 15 tackles and 12 tackles, respectively. Parker now leads the team in tackles with 43, just one ahead of Knight, as the pair have battled for the top spot all season.

Looking to Hand Out a Loss
The Privateers will look to hand Norwich its first conference loss of the 2015 season. Norwich won its matchups against Galladuet (27-6) and Becker (31-14) in the two weeks leading up to the week seven matchup.
