Complete Men's & Women's Results

BRONX, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Cross Country team picked up its first team victory of the 2015 season with its first place finish at the City College of New York Classic at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
 
In addition to the men's team victory, Maritime's Women's Cross Country squad picked up a 14th place finish at the meet on Sunday morning.
 
Junior Chelsea Mesa (Bayside, N.Y./Francis Lewis) of the Women's Cross Country team led the team to a 14th place finish, as the quintet finished with an overall score of 349 points.
 
Mesa broke the finish line with a 21st place finish individually, while recording a time of 26:51.6 on the Van Cortlandt Park 6K course. Rookie Emily Zink (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) came in less than two minutes after Mesa, as Zink picked up a time of 28:22.9.
 
Freshman Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) was the next Privateer to finish her run, as Colgan ran a 32:09.9, classmate Riley Huang (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) was fourth for the team with a time of 37:15.2. Rounding out the scoring positions for the Privateers was sophomore Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) (45:14.3).

Leading the charge for the Privateers was junior Joseph Pellegrino (Huntington, N.Y./Commack), who finished in fourth place overall with a time of 29:08.0. Pellegrino finished just ahead of sophomore Nick Sherman (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington), who came in just two seconds later at 29:10.5.
 
Senior Cameron Coneys (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) came in across the line in 13th position as he posted a time of 30:20.0 for an average pace of just over six minutes per mile. Freshman Tom Mongeau (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) registered the fourth spot for the Privateers with a time of 30:32.7, while junior Kevin Sun (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) ended the meet in 17th position overall for the fifth and final scoring spot as he collected a time of 30:38.8.
 
Freshman Christian Berglin (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) scored a time of 30:55.7, while finishing in 23rd position. Rookie Vincent Cotrone (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) picked up a time of 32:06.2, followed by classmates Tanner Russo (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) (35:45.3), Kurt Schieferstein (Lattingtown, N.Y./Chaminade) (36:30.9), and sophomore Nick Musto (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) (41:47.2).
 
With its top-five finishers all within the top-17, and within the top-15 in points, Maritime cruised to a team score of 47, which was 43 points better than second place Staten Island. St. Joseph's (LI) was the second Skyline Conference team to score with a fourth place finish, followed by Yeshiva in sixth, Farmingdale in eighth, Sarah Lawrence in 10th and St. Joseph's (Bklyn) in 17th.
 
Maritime will race just once more as the final tune-up before the Skyline Conference Championships. The Privateers will travel to Long Island this coming Saturday for a trip to Sunken Meadow Park in Kings Park, N.Y. for the St. Joseph's (LI) Invitational; the Privateers will look to improve on last year's finish in the deep fields that featured over 200 racers.
