THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2014) – The Maritime women's volleyball team lost its home matchup on Sunday afternoon to the Kings Point Mariners in the final contest of the Fifth Annual Maritime Classic at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The Privateers fall to 4-6 overall on the season, while the Mariners improve to 11-1.

Freshman
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) led the way offensively for Maritime with six kills, while classmate
Gabrielle Kempski (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) registered five kills. Defensively, senior libero
Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) recorded a match-high 10 digs. Sophomore transfer
Carly Lombardo (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) chipped in with nine assists.

Brady was named to the Maritime Classic All-Tournament Team after recording 42 kills to go along with 19 digs and six aces over the three matches this weekend.

The Mariners were led by senior Jennifer Perkins, who was named the Tournament MVP and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She had a match-high nine kills. Freshman Kayla Gleason, who also was selected to the All-Tournament Team, recorded a match-high 25 assists, while sophomore libero Darin Zacharias picked up eight digs. The Mariners earned the championship trophy for the Maritime Classic for the second time in three years.

The Privateers return to action on Wednesday night, Sept. 24, when they travel to Jamaica, N.Y., to take on the Cardinals of York College (N.Y.). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
