Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia), Athan's shot sailed just over the corner of the crossbar in the seventh minute of play. Both sides remained in a stalemate as the Privateers had an 8-5 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes of play.
Maritime controlled much of the play in the second half as it outshot the Buccaneers by a 10-5 margin, one of the Privateers' best chances came off a free kick with the ball being sent to Quinn. The sophomore defender sent a shot through traffic that Mass. Maritime goalkeeper Katie Levesque needed to dive on top of as she kept her clean sheet intact.
With the game still scoreless through the second period, Maritime headed to overtime for the first time this season.
In the first overtime period, the Privateers were only able to muster a pair of shots, both of which went wide of the post including one by freshman
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold), and the other by Avitto as the game then pushed to a second extra session.
Maritime had its best chance in overtime with just over three minutes left in the game as Woods connected on a very sharp angle shot that was fought off by Levesque as the Privateers put pressure on the net trying to fight in the last goal, but to no success as the final horn sounded shortly after to end the match.
Final shots saw Maritime outshoot its guests by a 19-10 differential, while corner kicks were in favor of the Privateers at a 12-6 clip. Hoar and Levesque settled for their first ties of the season, as both registered eight saves a clip.
