Men's Lacrosse Preview: Privateers Return Home for Evening Contest with Lyndon State

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 18, 2014) – Coming off of its second win of the season on Sunday against Maine Maritime, the Maritime men's lacrosse team will look to continue its winning ways with a non-conference against Lyndon State on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on Reinhart Field.

LAST GAME RECAP
Maritime enters off of its second win of the season against Maine Maritime on Sunday afternoon by a 10-9 score in overtime as part of the 2014 Maritime Cup.
 
After falling behind early, the Privateers erased a 5-goal deficit while scoring eight of the games nine goals to take a 9-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Maine Maritime scored twice in the fourth quarter to tie the game at nine.
 
Senior Paul Grubb (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun), picked up an unassisted tally with 2:38 gone by in the overtime session to give the Privateers the victory in the extra session.
 
Grubb picked up three goals in the game, while freshman Colin McCoy (Glen Allen, Va./Greenport (N.Y.)) picked up a pair of markers. Sophomore Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) also scored once while going 12-for-21 on faceoffs. In goal, rookie Kieran Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) made 12 saves, including six in the fourth quarter to pick up the first win of his career.
 
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Lyndon State enters off of four straight losses to start off their season, including a loss to Canton on Saturday afternoon by a 22-3 score.
 
Dominic Ditommaso currently leads the team with five goals in three games, followed by Billy Bazyk with three goals and three assists. Robert Cupi and Justin Mosher both also have three goals this season for an offense that has been outscored 68-17 thus far in the season.
 
In regards to faceoffs, Colin Young has gone 28-for-85 as the team's primary player on draws, while Bazyk is 4-for-10 in limited action.
 
In goal, three players have split time in the game with Marcus Bessette getting most of the work early on. Bessette has stopped 64 shots while allowing 35 goals in 146:10 this year. Second on the team is Matthew Reynolds, who has allowed 25 goals and stopped 17 shots in just over 62 minutes of work this season.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
Maritime and Lyndon State have never met before in the history of the programs. The Privateers have only taken on one team from the Northern Athletics Conference in the history of the program, and are 3-0 all-time against Maine Maritime.

After having played five games in four different states, the Hornets will travel to Connecticut to take on Albertus Magnus on Thursday afternoon for a 3 p.m. start in New Haven.
