      WEST POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2014) – The Maritime mixed rifle team took part in the NCAA Qualifying Meet hosted by Army this past Saturday. The Privateers failed to qualify for the ultra-competitive field of the NCAA National Championship Meet, but the squad used the experience as great practice for the upcoming MAC Conference Championship Meet this coming Saturday, March 1.

      Maritime outshot two of the other three teams at the event, which was held at Army's Tronsrue Marksmanship Center. The Privateers finished with the team's highest score of the season in the smallbore discipline, 2090, while shooting a 2153 in the air rifle competition.

      Five shooters shot personal bests in smallbore –
Robert Depietri (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) (538),
Joseph Andricola (Blackwood, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) (527),
Kevin Owens (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (507),
Joe Holomshek (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) (509) and
Barry Potts (South Brunswick Township, N.J./South Brunswick) (527).

      Depietri led the way for Maritime with his team-high 538 in smallbore. Andricola shot the Privateers' second-best score of 527, while freshman
Bradley Boomhower (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) (516) and Holomshek (509) rounded out the scoring.

      In air rifle action, Holomshek scored a team-best 542. Five of his six cards were scores of 90 or better. Junior
Dan Strahan (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) was second on the squad with a score of 540, while Potts (536) and Depietri (535) had the team's third and fourth highest countable scores.

      Also shooting on the day in air rifle and recording personal best, but not counting towards the team's overall score were Owens (538), Boomhower (544) and freshman
Vincent Liang (Taiwan/Benjamin N. Cardozo).

      Maritime will conclude the 2013-14 season this coming Saturday, March 1, at the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship, hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. The Privateers earned the #1 seed in the smallbore sharpshooter division with a 9-5 record and will face either the VMI women or men at the championship meet, while Maritime was the #2 seed in the air rifle expert division with an 8-5 record and will face local rival #1 John Jay, who finished the regular season with a 9-4 mark.
