Results vs. Old Westbury (Nov. 13)Results vs. Purchase (Nov. 12)THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Swimming & Diving team opened up the home portion of its 2014-15 schedule on Thursday night, as the Privateers hosted the Old Westbury Panthers. On the evening, the Privateers handled the Panthers with ease as the men women won by a score of 124-57, and the men also picked up the victory by a 125-54 score.

In the win, the men's team had a successful home opener as the quartet of
Zach Haughn (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.),
Craig Lyon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North),
Daniel Hemmer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and
Collin McNamara (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) won by a few seconds over Maritime's second team of
Matthew Cannon (Sparta, N.J./Sparta),
Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy),
Charles Schnebel (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and
Peter Skerys (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson).

Robert Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown),
Kevin Keane (East Islip, N.Y./St. Anthony's), and
Luke Doherty (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) swept the top three positions in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle to give Maritime an even larger lead in the early going of the night. The Privateers swept the top-three spots in the 200-Yard Freestyle as well as
Douglas Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot),
Andrew Katz (Elwood, N.Y./John Glenn), and
Patrick Ward (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) led the pack.

McNamara won the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 22.66, with Schnebel earning a win in the 200-Yard Individual Medley by over five seconds. Hemmer was the only swimmer in the pool to finish with a time below one minute as he collected a 57.05 in the 100-Yard Butterfly.

Jimmy Jorgenson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) collected another Maritime win in the 100-Yard Freestyle, as he along with
John Dean (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) and
Patrick O'Dea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) swept the podium positions. Haughn, Cannon and
Ryan Fitzgerald (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) swept the 100-Yard Backstroke with Haughn collecting a time of 59.53 in the event.
The women's team also had a successful night as the unit opened up with a strong start with a win in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. The quartet of Mariel VanderLinden, Emma Crandall, Hayley Hobbs and Danielle Leahy swam to the victory.

Senior Christine McCormack was up next in the 100-Yard Freestyle and defeated her competition by over two minutes with a time of 14:38.84. Freshman Sarah Soulagnet picked up a win in the 200-Yard Freestyle, with sophomore Ashley O'Brien coming in second.

Leahy picked up her second win of the night in the 50-Yard Freestyle, accumulating a time of 28:27 en route to the win. Soulagnet followed up with her second victory of the evening in the 200-Yard Individual Medley.

After a brief break, Hobbs started Maritime's winning ways once again with a 29-second victory in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Soulagnet collected yet another win in the 100-Yard Backstroke, followed by O'Brien netting a victory in the 500-Yard Freestyle. In the 100-Yard Breaststroke, Crandall picked up an eight-second win to finish off the individual races for the night. Hobbs, VanderLinden, freshman Abigail Granit, and Leahy capped off the evening with a win in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.
A night earlier, the men's team opened up Skyline competition with a win against Purchase on Wednesday evening as they swam to a 131-58 wins over the Panthers. Maritime's women's team fell to Purchase by a 109-87 differential.

The men's team handled Purchase from the early going as Cannon, Lyon, Hemmer and McNamara started the night with a win in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.
Matthew Collins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) got on the board with a victory in the 1,000-Yard Freestyle. McNamara and Doherty finished first and second in the 50-Yard Freestyle event to collect a combined 13 more points for Maritime.
Erskine and Hemmer picked up wins in their respective events with Erskine edging out a 0.4 second win in the 200-Yard Individual Medley, and Hemmer beating out teammate Lewis for a win in the 100-Yard Butterfly.

Cannon, Ward, and
Tom Mirrione (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) swept the board with a top-3 finish in the 100-Yard Freestyle, with both Cannon and Ward putting up times of less than one minute. Fitzgerald took the 100-Yard Backstroke, and Lewis took the 500-Yard Freestyle to earn nine points each and cap off the victories on Wednesday night for the Privateers.
On the women's side, McCormack won the 1,000-Yard Freestyle by just 12 seconds to give Maritime its first win of the night. Soulagnet earned a victory in the 200-Yard Freestyle, also by a slim margin of just over one second. She then followed that up with a victory once again in the 200-Yard Individual Medley.

Later in the night, Hobbs swam her way to victory in the 100-Yard Butterfly, before ending the night with another victory in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay as she along with Soulagnet, Crandall, and McCormack won by six seconds.

With its pair of wins over the last two days the Men's Swimming Team stands at 3-1 on the season, with a victory also coming in the Relay Invitational to start the year. The women's side sits at 2-2 on the season, with a 1-1 mark in Skyline Competition.

After the weekend off, Maritime will get right back to action on Monday afternoon, with non-conference competition against Lehman at 6 p.m. from the Riesenberg Hall Pool. The event will also feature diving competition added to the schedule of events.
