Mixed Rifle Defeats Penn State And Penn State ROTC This Past Saturday

        UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (Jan. 18, 2014) – On Saturday, the Maritime mixed rifle team took on Penn State and the PSU ROTC squad in a shoulder-to-shoulder match. The Privateers defeated the Nittany Lions in both the smallbore (1974-1946) and air rifle (2125-1983) disciplines and handled the ROTC team in the smallbore only, 1974-1399. With the victories, the Privateer smallbore squad improves to 5-3, while air rifle moves to 4-3.
 
        Maritime was led by senior Rob Depietri in smallbore. He shot a team-best 503, including three cards with scores of 90 or better. He bounced back after scoring an 84 on his first card to shoot the three straight in the 90s (93 kneeling, 91 and 90 prone). He finished with a 71 and 74 in the standing position. The squad's top four scores were rounded out by freshman Bradley Boomhower (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville), who shot a 499, followed closely by junior Barry Potts (South Brunswick Township, N.J./South Brunswick) with a 497 and classmate Dan Strahan (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) who scored a 475. Junior Joe Andricola shot a 482, but his result was not designated for final scoring.
 
        In the air rifle discipline, senior Allison Lashmet (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) continued her impressive shooting this season, leading the Privateers with a score of 549. She shot a 90 or better on four of her six cards, including a match-best 96 on her fifth card. She finished the day with a 94 on her next and final card. Potts was second on the team with 539 points. Five of his six cards were 90 or better. Andricola (523) and Boomhower (514) rounded out the scoring for Maritime.
 
        The Privateers return to action this Sunday, Jan. 26, at the NRA Sectionals hosted by the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Pa. The squad's scores from this Sunday's action will count against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Loyola University.
