THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2014) – The Maritime hockey team resumed action after the winter break this past weekend with home and away games on Saturday against NJIT and Sunday at Southern Connecticut. The Privateers defeated the Highlanders, 6-1, at Chelsea Piers Connecticut on Saturday night and followed that up with a 7-4 victory over ECHC opponent SoConn Sunday afternoon.

In the second, classmate Mark Tooma (Monroe-Woodbury, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made it 2-0 with a goal assisted by Jeff Dolan (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's). Senior Paul Grubb (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) found the back of the net just over a minute after Tooma to put the Privateers up 3-0. His goal was assisted by freshman Nicholas Lede.

Junior Vinny Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) made it 4-0 in favor of Maritime with the first goal of the third period. Tooma had the helper on that tally. Later in the third, Grubb helped set up freshman Thomas Altini (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) for the first goal of his collegiate career. NJIT staved off a shutout when Corrado Mancini found the back of the net with 5:50 to go in the game, but less than a minute later Monfredo scored his second of the night, this assisted by Tooma and sophomore Steven Martino (Branchburg, N.J./St. Joseph Metuchen).

In net, junior Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made 19 saves to collect the victory. NJIT's Pyrka made 24 stops in the losing effort.
