THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2013) – The Maritime women's volleyball team will travel to nearby Bronxville, N.Y., this weekend to take part in the 2013 Sarah Lawrence Invitational. The Privateers will play two matches on both Saturday and Sunday against other local teams New Jersey City University, Manhattanville College and The King's College along with the hosts, Sarah Lawrence.

        Saturday's meeting will be the first between the Privateers and the Gothic Knights.
 
Inside The Series With Manhattanville
        Maritime has faced the Valiants just twice in the past nine seasons and it was Manhattanville that came out on top in both matches. The teams last met during the 2012 season, which resulted in a 3-0 sweep by the Valiants on their home court in Purchase, N.Y. Then-sophomore Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) led all players with nine-digs.

        The Privateers and Gryphons are no strangers to each other, as the two teams have squared off 11 times in the past nine seasons. The last two years, they have played each other four times and have split the action in that time, two matches apiece. In 2012, it was Sarah Lawrence that took both meetings, both by the score of 3-0. In 2011, Maritime won, 3-0 and 3-1.
