Privateers Drop Straight-Set Match To Medgar Evers Tuesday Night

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2013) – The Maritime women's volleyball team lost its home opener in straight sets to Medgar Evers College, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-17, Tuesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The defeat drops the Privateers to 0-2, while the Cougars improve to 1-2.
 
        Junior Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) led the way for Maritime with five kills, while senior Alyssa Pourmonir (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area ) (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) recorded a match-high 11 digs. Freshman Ayden Johnson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) tallied seven assists on the night and sophomore Colleen Sheehy (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) had three kills and two blocks for the Privateers.
 
        For Medgar Evers, senior Janiece Hill led all players with eight kills and her team with seven dis. Sophomore Nina-Bernadin White had a match-high 12 assists and freshman Kalifa Roberts recorded the Cougars' only block of the night.
 
        The Privateers return to action this Saturday, when they travel up to Castine, Maine for the Annual Maritime Classic, hosted by Maine Maritime. SUNY Maritime will play Mass. and Maine Maritime on both Saturday and Sunday.
