SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (March 11, 2013) – The Maritime hockey team travelled down to Missouri on Sunday to get ready for the biggest week in the history of the program. The Privateers will be competing along with 15 other teams in the 2013 ACHA DIII National Tournament being held at the Mediacom Ice Park in Springfield, Mo. The squad becomes just the third team from Maritime to compete in a national tournament after Men's Soccer and Football did so in 2010 (both) and 2011 (Men's Soccer).

“The guys are excited to be here, but focused,” said head coach Matthew Garofalow. “They know they have one more goal that hasn't been met and they are five wins away from a national championship. We epitomize the word team and I expect nothing less than them coming out and playing for each other, especially for the three seniors; Dan Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), Taylor Carsch (Hockessin, Del./AI Dupont) (Hockessin, Del./AI Dupont) and Jimmy McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River).”

The opening rounds of the hockey tournament will feature “pool play” with four teams in four separate pools. Maritime was chosen to play in Pool C as the #4 team in the pool. Along with the Privateers in Pool C are #1 seed Davenport University, #2 Kennesaw State University and #3 Marquette University.

Maritime will play each team in its pool once, beginning with Davenport on Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT at the Mediacom East Rink. The Privateers will then take on Kennesaw State on Wednesday at 11 a.m. EDT on the West Rink, before finishing out pool play on Thursday against Marquette at 9 a.m. EDT back on the East Rink.

The winner of the pool will go on to face the Pool D winner in the National Semifinals on Friday night, March 15 at noon EDT on the West Rink. Pool D features the follow teams: California University of Pennsylvania, Iowa State University, the University of Alabama and the University of Michigan-Flint.

The winner of the Pool C vs. Pool D semifinal game will take on the winner of the Pool A vs. Pool B semifinal game in the National Championship Game on Saturday, March 16 at noon EDT on the East Rink.

Every game of the ACHA DIII National Tournament will be video-streamed live from the Mediacom Ice Park. You can watch the games at a pay-per-view rate beginning at $7.99 each. All the games will be broadcasted by www.FastHockey.com, which requires a sign-up to login and watch the action.
