Hockey Splits Weekend Action Once Again With Loss At Home To Bryn Athyn And Win On The Road At Sacred Heart

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2013) – The Maritime hockey team split its weekend action this past weekend, losing at home to Bryn Athyn, 3-2, Friday night at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford, Conn. before winning on the road at Sacred Heart, 6-1, on Saturday.
 
        The Privateers trailed, 2-1, after two periods of play against the Lions on Friday, with Raymond Norfo and Scott Witmyer finding the back of the net for the visitors, bookending a power play goal by sophomore KJ Paseka  (Weston, Fla./Northfield-Mount Hermon) that was assisted by seniors Dillon Dolansky (Monroe, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) (Monroe, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) and Ross Freund (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade).
 
        In the third, Bryn Athyn scored early to move their lead to 3-1 and the Privateers pulled within one on an unassisted tally by Freund with 5:30 to go. Lion goalie Graham Lermitte put up a brick wall the rest of the way, however, to preserve the 3-2 victory. He made 37 saves on the night, while Maritime junior goalie Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) stopped 29 shots.
 
        On Saturday at Sacred Heart at The Sports Center in Shelton, Conn., the Privateers scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game. Dolansky scored unassisted, followed by a goal by junior Vincent Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) assisted by senior Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) and Dolansky. The Pioneers answered with a tally by Mike Vaiano to cut the lead to 2-1, where it stayed into the first intermission.
 
        Maritime pulled away late in the second period, scoring three goals in just 3:31 of action. Junior Tanner McWain (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) got it started from Galli and Paseka. Paseka then lit the lamp just over a minute later off a pass by Freund and Freund then tallied a goal assisted by Galli to put the Privateers ahead 5-1 by the end of the second period.
 
        Freshman Chris Cookingham (Staatsburg, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) (Staatsburg, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) added a goal late in the third period, assisted by junior Tommy Kirby (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Xaverian) (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Xaverian). Burger made 12 saves in two periods of action and sophomore Connor Graham (Midlothian, Texas/Midlothian Senior) (Midlothian, Texas/Midlothian Senior) came in for a scoreless third period, making 12 saves to preserve the victory. For the Pioneers, Marcus Richer suffered the loss, allowing five goals, while making 32 saves, and Nick Stowe came in for the third, making 11 saves and allowing just one goal.
 
        The Privateers return to action on Friday night, Nov. 8, for a home game against East Stroudsburg University at 8:30 p.m. at Chelsea Piers Connecticut.
