Hockey Splits Weekend Action, Beating Fordham And Falling To Farmingdale; Privateers Celebrate Ring Night Saturday

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 27, 2013) – The Maritime hockey team celebrated their 2012-13 Championship Season on Saturday night with a special pre-game ring ceremony prior to the home game against Fordham University at Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford. The squad then defeated rival Fordham, 10-0 on Saturday, before travelling to Long Island on Sunday and losing to Empire Collegiate Hockey Conference opponent Farmingdale St., 4-3.

The Privateers got goals from seven different goal scorers in their win on Saturday. Senior Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea) recorded a hat trick and also picked up two assists to lead the Privateers with five points. Junior Vincent Pedulla (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) found the back of the net twice, including a short-handed goal that closed out the scoring on the night.

Also scoring for Maritime in the victory was senior Dillon Dolansky (Monroe, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) (Monroe, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic), who also had two assists, sophomore KJ Paseka (Weston, Fla./Northfield-Mount Hermon), senior Paul Grubb (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun), senior Ross Freund (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) on the power play and freshman Patrick Flynn (Bloomfield, N.J./Depaul Catholic) (Bloomfield, N.J./Depaul Catholic). In goal, junior Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made 20 saves to claim the shutout win.

On Sunday, the Privateers led 2-0 after one period of play on goals by Paeka and Dolansky, assisted by Freund and junior Vinny Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd), respectively. The Rams fought back to tie it with two tallies of their own in the second period, both by John Mendicino. In the third, Galli put Maritime ahead with 16:22 to go, but Farmingdale scored two goals just 43 seconds apart by Jack Radin on the power play and Matthew Johnson. In goal, Burger made 28 saves in the losing effort.

Maritime will be back in action on Friday night, Nov. 1, when the Privateers will host Bryn Athyn at Chelsea Piers Connecticut at 8:30 p.m.
