(Jan. 28, 2013) – The Maritime hockey team won all three of its games this weekend, including victories over regionally-ranked opponents Southern Connecticut State (4-3 in overtime on Friday) and Fairfield (5-4 on Sunday) and a conference win over Stevens (15-0 on Saturday). The Privateers improve to 19-2 (11-0 MCHC) on the season after the perfect weekend.
On Friday night at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, Conn., Maritime fell behind SoConn 2-0 early, but got on the board late in the first period on a goal by sophomore

In the second period, #10-regionally ranked SoConn scored another goal to take a 3-1 lead, but the Privateers' senior captain
Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) tallied an unassisted goal and junior
Ross Fruend (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) lit the lamp just three minutes later off a pass from sophomore
Vinny Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) to tie the game. Neither team scored in the third period, so the game went to overtime. In the bonus period, Monferdo completed the comeback with the game-winner with 1:27 to play. Sophomore

On Saturday against Stevens at Parkwood in Great Neck, Monfredo scored the first three goals of the game in the first period and the Privateers ended the final 20 minutes with a 9-0 lead. Brialsford also recorded a hat trick and sophomore

Against #9-regionally ranked Fairfield on Sunday at the Sports Center of Connecticut in Shelton, Conn., the Privateers got goals from McWain and Monfredo in the first period and took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after one. Freshman
Billy Kelly (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) scored a power play goal for Maritime early in the second, but Fairfield scored two-straight before the buzzer and the period ended with the game tied 2-2. Monfredo scored two more goals in the third period for his second hat trick in as many games and the Privateers held off a late rush by Fairfield to earn the victory. Burger made 24 saves to earn the “W.”
Maritime has three games this coming week, including a mid-week contest at conference opponent Saint Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday at the Palisades Mall Ice Rink at 9 p.m. On Friday, Feb. 1, the Privateers will take on local Met Hockey foe Fordham at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon at 10:15 p.m. The last game of the week will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2, when Maritime will play host to Columbia in a conference game at 9:15 p.m. at Parkwood.
