THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2012) – The Maritime women's volleyball team won its second set of the 2012 season on Monday night against New Rochelle, but it wasn't enough, as the visiting Blue Angels won the match, three sets to one. The scores of each set were 25-20, 25-10, 20-25 and 25-10. The Privateers fall to 0-11 on the season, while CNR improves to 4-8.
Sophomore
Tessa Jardine (Valley Stream, N.Y./Waterford) (Valley Stream, N.Y./Waterford) led Maritime with five kills on the night and tied classmate
Sydney Carella (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) for the team-lead with seven digs. Carella and senior
Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman) both finished the night with four kills apiece. Romero also had six digs, while junior
Alyssa Pourmonir (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area ) (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) had a team-high seven assists.
For the Blue Angels, seniors Dalila Rosado and Elizabeth Johnston each led all players with seven kills, apiece. Johnston also registered a match-high nine digs and senior Kristina Nilaj recorded 14 assists.
Maritime is back on the court next on Thursday, when the squad will travel over to Jamaica, Queens, to take on York College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Cardinal's York College Gym.
