NEW YORK (Sept. 12, 2012) – The Maritime women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to Skyline opponent Yeshiva last night in a non-conference match played at Baruch College. The scores of the match were 25-10, 25-7 and 25-18. It was the Privateers fourth-straight loss on the young season and the Maccabees second victory of 2012.
Maritime was led by first-year sophomore
Tessa Jardine (Valley Stream, N.Y./Waterford) (Valley Stream, N.Y./Waterford), who tallied four kills, four aces and four digs. Senior
Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman) recorded a team-high eight digs, while junior-transfer
Alyssa Pourmonir (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area ) (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) put up nine assists to go along with five digs and three kills on four attempts for a .750 hitting percentage.
For Yeshiva, freshman Makena Owens registered a match-high seven kills on an impressive .417 hitting percentage (7 kills/2 errors/12 attempts). Senior Moriah Green led all players with 10 assists and junior Shira Genauer produced a match-high nine digs.
The Privateers will travel to Buzzards Bay, Mass., this weekend to take part in the Third Annual Maritime Classic with hosts Mass. Maritime, Maine Maritime and Kings Point. The first match of the tournament will be Friday night when SUNY Maritime takes on Maine Maritime at 5 p.m. On the second day of action, the Privateers will play Kings Point at 9 a.m. and then close out the tournament against the host Buccaneers at 3 p.m.
