THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2012) – The Maritime hockey team extended its winning streak to four by defeating Wagner, 3-2, last Friday, Feb. 3, at Parkwood. The goal scoring came from senior forwards Dan Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) and Jesse Wynn (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep) (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund's Prep), while the game-winner was off the stick of freshman Vincent Pedulla (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey). All three of the goal scorers finished with two-point nights, as they all registered a goal and an assist. Wagner scored late to pull within one with just 2:33 to go in regulation but freshman goaltender Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) shut the door to give the Privateers the victory, finishing with 40 saves on the night.

After falling to Fairfield by a score of 3-2 despite Thomas Kirby's (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Xaverian) final second heroics to push the game into overtime on Saturday, Feb. 4, the Privateers got back in the winning column by defeating arch-rival Kings Point this past Friday, Feb. 10, at home. The power-play was clicking in the first period as the Privateers went three-for-four with goals coming from forwards Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By The Sea) who registered four points on the night, Tyx and Josh Hempel (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch) (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch). Pedulla had first period tally that came as soon as a Mariner had penalty expired, but the freshman forward did manage  to get a different kind of special-teams goal, as he scored while shorthanded early in the second period during a Maritime carry-over penalty. Pedulla registered three points alongside junior defenseman Jeff Dolan (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) (Floral Park, N.Y./Saint Mary's). Wynn got the only other goal in the second while Burger allowed just one goal on 26 shots before being replaced midway into the third by junior D.J. Gennarelli (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) who turned aside five of six KP shots.

The Privateers finished the regular season losing 6-5 in overtime on the road against non-conference opponent Farmingdale St. Despite the OT loss, the home team was resilient throughout the game as they led 2-1 after the first period and 5-4 after the second. Getting goals for the Privateers were Pedulla, James McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River), Galli, and Hempel, who finished strong with two goals and an assist. Burger stopped 65 of 71 shots in the loss.

Maritime finishes the regular season with a record of 14-10-1 overall, including a 12-4 mark in the Met Hockey Conference standings. The team will next compete in the MCHC Playoffs as the #3 seed this weekend at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The Privateers will skate against #2-seed Fordham in the semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.
