NEW YORK (Dec. 6, 2012) – The Maritime basketball team lost to Skyline-opponent Yeshiva Thursday night in Manhattan by the score of 72-50. The Privateers drop to 0-6 (0-2 Skyline) in defeat, while the Maccabees improve to 2-5 (2-2 Skyline).
Two players scored in double figures for Maritime, senior
Ron Bethea (Harlem, N.Y./Humanities Prep.) (Harlem, N.Y./Humanities Prep.) led all players with 18 points and sophomore
T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sunland Baptist) was right behind with 16 points and a team-high five rebounds. Freshman
Tim McNamara (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) chipped in with eight points.
Yeshiva was led by senior Gil Bash, who matched the game-high with 18 points. Three other players scored 10-plus points for the Macs.: junior Shlomo Weissberg had 16, senior Dovie Hoffman had 12 and junior Benjy Ritholtz had 11. Weissberg led all players with 12 rebounds. Yeshiva head coach Dr. Jonathan Halpert notched his 400th career win with the victory.
Maritime is done with the 2012 portion of the schedule. The game that was originally planned for this Saturday at Brooklyn College has been postponed and no make-up date has been announced as of yet. The Privateers are scheduled to play Lehman next on the road on Jan. 3, 2013. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Lightning's APEX Gym.
