NEW LONDON, Conn. (Nov. 17, 2012) – The Maritime rifle team competed at the Admiral's Cup Meet, hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy this past Saturday. The Privateers were slated for shoulder-to-shoulder matches against Coast Guard and Mass. Maritime, as well as a postal score against Navy.

Maritime faced only Coast Guard in live action and lost to the Bears by the score of 4343-4092. The Privateers shot a score of 1979 in the smallbore event and 2113 in the air rifle event. The loss drops Maritime to an even 3-3 on the season.

“It was a very tough meet and Coast Guard shot their best scores of the season,” said second-year head coach Tom White. “Our team performed great, as well. Three shooters scored personal bests at the event. We were also limited this week, however, as two of our top four shooters were not able to make the trip.”

Junior Joe Holomshek (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) led the Privateers in the smallbore event with a personal best score of 512. He was second on the squad in air rifle with 539. Classmate Allison Lashmet (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) shot the best score of the day with a personal record in air rifle of 548. Junior Robert Depietri (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) set his own personal best in the air rifle with a score of 509, while sophomore Barry Potts (South Brunswick Township, N.J./South Brunswick) (South Brunswick Township, N.J./South Brunswick) rounded out the scoring in both events, shooting a 454 in the smallbore and a 517 in the air rifle.

The Privateers' scores from this event will count in postal matches against Mass. Maritime and Navy.

Maritime rifle will return to the range on Saturday, Dec. 1, when the squad will travel to Manhattan take on John Jay College in the annual Big Apple Trophy Meet.
