CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Nov. 10, 2012) – The Maritime rifle team competed at a multi-team meet up at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday and defeated the Wentworth Institute's Mixed and Women's squads, but lost to MIT.
The team competed in both the smallbore and air rifle competitions and the combined scores of the shooters from both events was 4,062, which fell short of MIT's 4,436. The air rifle scores went up against Wentworth's and the Privateers' 2,117 narrowly defeated the Wentworth Mixed Team's 2,116 and also defeated the women's score of 2,087.
Maritime's scores from this event will also be used in a postal match against Loyola University. The Privateers improve to 3-2 on the season.
Sophomore
Joe Holomshek (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) led the squad in the smallbore event with a score of 500, while classmate
Rob Depietri (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) was right behind with 499.
In the air rifle event, sophomore
Allison Lashmet (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) (DeFreestville, N.Y./Columbia) shot the best score of the day, 552, while senior
Michael Kellner (Baton Rouge, La./Catholic) (Baton Rouge, La./Catholic) was second on the squad with a score of 535.
The Privateers are back in action next Saturday, Nov. 17, when they will take part in the Admiral's Cup at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. against Coast Guard and Mass. Maritime, as well as a postal match with Navy.
