THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2012) – The Maritime hockey team defeated Met Hockey Conference opponent Hofstra, 11-1, Saturday night at the Pride's home rink in Long Beach, Long Island. The Privateers continue their strong start to the season, as they improve to 5-1 overall (3-0 MCHC).
13 different players recorded a point for Maritime in the victory, led by sophomore
Vinny Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd), who had four points with a goal and three assists. Classmate
Thomas Kirby (Rockaway Park, N.Y./Xaverian) also recorded four points, all on assists. Two players scored twice for the Privateers: senior captain
Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) and freshman
Billy Kelly (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook). Kelly also chipped in one assist.
In goal, sophomore
Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) earned the victory with 28 saves.
The Privateers will return to action this Saturday night, Oct. 27, when they will host non-conference opponent Southern Connecticut. Faceoff is scheduled for 9:15 p.m. at the Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y.
