THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 16, 2012) – The Maritime hockey team had two games this past weekend against Albany on the road on Friday night and then New Paltz at home on Saturday night. The Privateers picked up wins in both games, 5-2, over the Great Danes and 13-0 over the Hawks.
The last time that Maritime played Albany was in the 2008-09 season and the Great Danes won a by a dominating 16-1 margin. This win was very big for the program in helping show how far the team has come in five years.
The Privateers jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two periods on goals by senior
Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) assisted by
Vincent Pedulla (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey), and two by freshman
Billy Kelly (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook), the first unassisted and the second assisted by sophomore
Vinny Monfredo (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd). In the third, two more goals by freshman
Kelly Paseka (Weston, Fla./Northfield-Mount Hermon), assisted by junior
Jeff Dolan (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's), and an empty netter by senior
James McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) sealed the victory. In goal, sophomore
Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made 26 saves for the victory.
On Saturday, Maritime saw 15 players record a point, with Tyx leading the way with four (1G, 3A). McManus and Kelly each recorded two goals and an assist and junior
Zach Dietrich (Point Pleasant, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) played two periods and made 25 saves before being replaced by freshman
Andrew Rizzuto (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Southside) (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Southside), who played the third period and preserved the shutout with 12 saves.
Maritime is back in action this weekend, when they travel to Long Beach, Long Island, N.Y. , on Saturday night, Oct. 20, to take on Hofstra University. Game time is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. at the Long Beach Ice Arena.
