Privateers Fall On The Road To St. Joseph’s Thursday Night

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 6, 2012) – On Thursday night, the Maritime men's basketball team lost to first-place Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's of Long Island, 94-73, at the Golden Eagles' Danzi Athletic Center. The Privateers fall to 2-10 (2-3 Skyline) on the season in defeat, while St. Joe's improves to 9-1 (5-0 Skyline) with the win.
 
        Grad. student Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Science & Engineering) (Harlem, N.Y./H.S. for Math, Sci. & Engineering) led Maritime with a double-double performance, scoring 14 points and bringing down a game-high 13 rebounds. Junior Bill Sherwood (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied 12 points and five boards, while senior Mike McSloy (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and freshman T-Vaughn Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas/Sun Land Academy) rounded out the Privateers' double-digit scorers with 11 and 10, respectively. Freshman Louie Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy) (Bronx, N.Y./Eagle Academy) added a team-high four assists.
 
        The Golden Eagles were led by senior Olivier Laurent, who drained a game-high 25 points. Four other players scored in double-figures for St. Joseph's, as seniors Chris Jimenez and Shahab Syed each scored 13 points, senior Trey Black tallied 12 and junior Eric Klingsberg finished the night with 11.
 
        The Privateers return to action on Monday, Jan. 9, when they travel up to nearby conference-foe Purchase for a tilt against the Panthers. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
