THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2011) – The Maritime volleyball team defeated the visiting Sarah Lawrence Gryphons Wednesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium by the score of 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 16-25, 26-24). The win improves the Privateers' record to an even 4-4 on the season, while SLC fall to 0-8.
Freshman Clarissa Silveria (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 12 digs. She was also just three aces away from a triple-double, as she led all players with seven service aces. Junior Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman) registered a match-high 12 kills, while classmate Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) dished out 25 assists. Killian was also just two kills and two digs away from a triple-double.
Sarah Lawrence was led by freshman Kathryn O'Sullivan, who recorded a triple-double with 11 kills, 13 assists and 12 digs. Classmates Alexis Chapman and Karolien Celie each had 11 digs apiece for the Gryphons.
Maritime returns to action on Saturday, when the squad travels to Purchase for a Skyline tri-match against the Old Westbury and Farmingdale State. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. with the Privateers taking on the Panthers.
