THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2011) – The Maritime women's volleyball team will play host to Sarah Lawrence College tonight in a non-conference match. The match is a make-up of the earlier postponed contest that was scheduled for last Tuesday, Sept. 13. First serve tonight is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
Inside The Series
The two teams met earlier this season at the Panther Invitational, hosted by Old Westbury. The Privateers defeated the Gryphons in straight-sets, 26-24, 25-10 and 25-11. Freshman Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) and junior Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich./Holt) both had a match-high seven kills apiece, while senior libero Nicole Pearson (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) led all players with nine digs. Junior Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) had 14 assists in the match.
Prior to that win earlier this season, Sarah Lawrence had had a commanding lead in the series, having defeated Maritime in each meeting dating back to the 2004 season.
