THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 17, 2011) – This coming weekend, the Maritime volleyball team will host the 2nd Annual Maritime Classic, welcoming in Maine Maritime, Massachusetts Maritime and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Each team will play each other once. There will be a total of six matches over two days (two matches Saturday night and four on Sunday).

Play gets underway Saturday at 5 p.m., when Maine Maritime will take on Kings Point at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. Following the opening action, the Privateers will play host to Mass. Maritime for their first home contest of the 2011 season.

On Sunday, Maine Maritime will play in the first two contests of the day against Mass. Maritime (9 a.m.)  and the Privateers (11 a.m.). Then Mass. Maritime will take on Kings Point at 1 p.m., before Maritime will end the tournament Sunday afternoon against their arch-rival Kings Point at 3 p.m.

A Look At Last Year's Maritime Classic

The Privateers did not fair too well at last year's tournament, hosted by Maine Maritime. Maritime lost all three contests in straight sets. Maine Maritime wound up winning the whole tournament with an exciting 3-2 victory over Kings Point.
