Volleyball Defeats Mass. Maritime, 3-0, On First Night Of Maritime Classic

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2011) – The Maritime women's volleyball defeated Mass. Maritime in straight sets Saturday night in the late match of the 2nd Annual Maritime Volleyball Classic. The scores of the match were 25-12, 25-17 and 25-18. With the win, the Privateers move about the .500 mark to 3-2 on the season, while the Buccaneers fall to 0-10.

Maritime was led by freshman Clarissa Silveria (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), who had a match-high six kills and eight service aces. Juniors Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman), Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich./Holt) and Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) each had four kills apiece. Killian had 14 assists on the night and a team-high five digs. Senior Nicole Pearson (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern) also had five digs on the night.

Mass. Maritime was led by freshman Kelsey Pelletier, who had a team-high three kills. Freshman Deb Langley had a team-high six digs and four assists.

The Privateers will continue action in the 2nd Annual Maritime Volleyball Classic tomorrow morning, when they play Kings Point at 11 a.m. at the Riesenberg Gym.
