Volleyball Drops Two Conference Matches Saturday At Tri-Match

        RIVERDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2011) – The Maritime volleyball team lost two matches at a Skyline tri-match hosted by Mount Saint Vincent earlier in the day on Saturday. The Privateers lost to the host MSV Dolphins, 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-19), before falling to St. Joseph's, also in straight sets, (25-13, 25-19, 25-13).
 
        The losses drop the Privateers to 4-9 overall (1-4 Skyline), while Mount Saint Vincent improved to 8-15 (2-5 Skyline) and St. Joseph's moved to 10-7 (6-0 Skyline) and into first place in the Skyline Conference.
 
        Junior Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman) led Maritime with 10 kills and two blocks over the two matches, while picking up 28 digs. Senior Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) had a team-high 31 digs in the libero role today and she also picked up seven kills. Junior Lauren Johnson (Lansing, Mich./Holt) (Lansing, Mich./Holt) recorded nine kills and 11 digs on the day, while classmate Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) registered 26 assists.
 
        Mount Saint Vincent was led by sophomore Morgane Booker, who had a match-high eight kills in the opening match of the day. The Dolphins' senior libero Renee Reynes amassed 13 digs in the three sets, but it wasn't enough for the match-high, as Jackson registered 17 in the losing effort.
 
        St. Joseph's was led by freshman Manuela Palacio and sophomore Jessica De Mato, who both recorded a match-high seven kills. Senior Andrea Hom led all players with 24 digs.
 
        Maritime returns to action on Monday, Oct. 10, when the squad plays host to Skyline opponent Mount Saint Vincent. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.
