Volleyball Swept By New Rochelle On Saturday Despite Close Play

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2011) – The Maritime volleyball team travelled to nearby College of New Rochelle on Saturday afternoon and lost in straight-sets, 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21. The defeat drops the Privateers to 4-7 overall on the season, while New Rochelle improves to 8-3.
 
        Maritime was led by junior Jerrica Romero (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H Lehman) (Bronx, N.Y./Lehman), who recorded five kills and a match-high 21 digs. Senior Natalie Jackson (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) (Stockton, Calif./Bear Creek) registered a team-high seven kills, while picking up eight digs. Junior setter Claudette Killian (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Lima Christian School) chipped in with 17 assists on the day.
 
        CNR freshman Meghan King and junior Elizabeth Johnston each had seven kills in the win, while junior Kristina Nilaj led the team with nine digs. Senior setter Zena Jamal also had 17 assists.
 
        The Privateers will compete next at a Skyline Conference tri-match hosted by Mount Saint Vincent next Saturday, Oct. 8. First serve against the host Dolphins is scheduled for 11 a.m. before Maritime's showdown with St. Joseph's at 1 p.m.
