Hockey Loses At Farmingdale State, Ties At Wagner This Past Weekend

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2011) – The Maritime hockey team played two games on the road this past weekend at Farmingdale State and Wagner. The Privateers lost to the Rams, 5-1 Friday night, before playing the Seahawks to a 3-3 tie on Sunday in Staten Island. With the loss and tie, Maritime's record moves to 0-2-1 overall thus far in the young 2011-12 season.
 

        In the game against Farmingdale State in Freeport, N.Y., the Rams got on the board first on a goal by Kyle Catalano just 1:25 into the game. The Privateers tied the game at the 14:45 mark when sophomore Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) scored off a pass from classmate Steven Altini (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea). However, Farmingdale scored twice in both the second and third periods to capture the victory. In goal, freshman Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made 72 saves in the losing effort.
 

        On Sunday, Maritime got on the board first in the opening period when sophomore Josh Hempel (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch) (Katy, Texas/Cinco Ranch) found the back of the net off an assist by freshman Tanner McWain (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan). Wagner tied the score with the lone goal of the second by Adam Nicolais. The Seahawks scored the first two goals of the third period to take a 3-1 lead, but the Privateers answered right back with an unassisted goal by junior James McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) just a minute and a half after and another unassisted tally by sophomore Daniel Tyx (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) about three minutes after that to tie the score. Neither team could find the game-winner as time ran out in the third, ending the contest. Burger made 27 saves in the tie.
 

        Maritime returns to action this Friday, Oct. 7, when the team travels to nearby Mount Vernon, N.Y., to open up Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference action against Fordham. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. at the Ice Hutch.
