After Home-And-Home Sweep Of Columbia, Hockey Looks To Key Weekend Matchup Against Fordham

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 27, 2011) – The Maritime hockey team improved its record to 4-3-1 overall (4-1 MCHC) with two wins in a home-and-home series with conference-opponent Columbia each of the last two weekends. The Privateers won, 4-3 in overtime, back on Oct. 15 and then won at home, 6-2, at the Parkwood Ice Rink on Oct. 21.
 
        In the first game, Maritime led 3-1 early in the third period after goals by freshman Vincent Pedulla (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) and two by sophomore Nick Galli (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By the Sea). The Lions responded with two goals to tie the game and force overtime. In the extra period, junior James McManus (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) lit the lamp off assists by Galli and senior Cullen Bozza (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown). Harris Burger (Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) had 19 saves for his second win of the season.
 
        Last weekend, the Privateers had Columbia's number from the start, scoring two goals in each of the first two periods. On the night, six differently players scored for Maritime and three players led the with two points each on a goal and an assist: Bozza, junior Frank Castelli (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) (Little Neck, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) and sophomore Ross Freund (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade) (Westbury, N.Y./Chaminade).  Burger made 20 saves for his third win.
 
        The Privateers will now turn their attention to Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference foe Fordham, who they will face Saturday night at 9:15 p.m. at home at the Parkwood Ice Rink in Great Neck, Long Island, N.Y. The two squads are currently tied for first place with eight points apiece, but the Rams won the previous meeting, 5-1, back on Oct. 7 at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon. The Maritime hockey team is encouraging fans to come to the rink and support the Privateers in this important conference game!
